"If you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies."
As weird as this might sound, isn’t it oddly enough, true? When you think about it, how can we achieve a more peaceful place if we don’t know where to begin? We are all simply humans and we all know how hard it is for one to love or even talk to your own enemy, we were designed this way, it is now our job to find a way to break this barrier. I remember that ever since I was a child, my mother always told me to make friends and if things don’t work out the way I planned, I should find a non-violent solution to this. In this era of weapons, mayhem and wars, can you imagine how much harder it is for us to find peace within ourselves, and let alone our community? Even fights and simple misunderstandings can affect everyone around us. So how are supposed to find a peaceful solution to all these problems?
PEACE. This is the word that everyone knows; this is the simple word that everyone wants to find and achieve. You might be thinking: “I’m just a kid! How am I supposed to make a difference in this world?” Well, as crazy as it might seem, we ourselves are the answer to this world wide problem. Whenever I see someone helping another person in need, I get this warm feeling. It makes me think WOW. These are the moments that one should truly cherish. When you think about it, simple words are the key to peace. It can be a dagger or even a tickle to one’s heart. Everything we say and do can affect the people around us. It is our job to make a difference in this world.
Peace can be achieved in multiple ways, but the one way that you think might hardly change ANYTHING, is a masterpiece. Masterpieces come in every way. Either a wonderful poem, a string of colorful words mixed together in a wonderful harmony and even a simple sentence. Take for instance, the work of our national hero, Jose Rizal. His books filled with his frustration and strong emotions about the Spaniards, raised a powerful war. When one creates a wonderful masterpiece, they are secretly creating a form of communication, whether they know it or not.
Communication is always the non violent way to solve all the world’s problems. Here’s a wonderful example: why do you think fights occur? It is as simple as miscommunication. This is the thing that allows us to achieve the peace we are longing for. We should know how to shape ourselves in a way that we achieve peace in the simple things we do. You might be thinking: “What about those who can’t communicate?” Let me tell you this, there is no such thing as a person who doesn’t know how to communicate. The blind, deaf and mute use different signs and symbols to communicate. Talking is one way of communicating but we shouldn’t limit ourselves to this. The art of communication is the most powerful masterpiece one could ever think of.
We should always remember that peace is not something that is a laughing matter. When we achieve peace with ourselves, we will soon achieve peace with our community, and even spread peace to others. Now, let’s get back to the quote at the top, you don’t make peace by talking to your friends; but by talking to your enemies. If one strives to achieve peace but then fails to communicate properly, nothing will be happen; fixing the smallest problems, can make the biggest difference. So let us shape ourselves into masterpieces, by knowing how to communicate and being MASTERS OF PEACE.
